Panacur one of the leading names in worming
Fenbendazole is a drug commonly known as Panacur, and is an important drug for the control of intestinal track parasites in domestic animals. With the advent of the Panacur Paste, horses can now easily avail the benefits of this wonder drug.
Panacur is the commonly known name for the synthetically manufactured drug Fenbendazole. It belongs to the anthelmintics category of chemical drugs. The main purpose for which panacur is used, is the removal of a lot of different kinds of intestinal and digestive tract parasites from the stomachs of animals. Though panacur is available without a compulsory prescription, it is recommended that it be only used under supervision of a qualified vet.
The parasites against which panacur works naturally are round worms, whip worms, hook worms and certain varieties of tapeworms. However, panacur's medicinal speciality is its effectiveness against parasites known as strongyles or strongyloides. It can also get rid of some types of bronchial pests.
As stated earlier, one should always be cautious when using panacur or Fenbendazole as a pet treatment drug, and only proceed with it when formally prescribed by a vet. This is because of this substance's propensity to cause certain side effects on the animals. Pets with a history of allergies to chemical drugs should not be exposed to panacur doses, otherwise hypersensitive reactions like vomiting could take place. Animals treated with Fenbendazole will also discharge dead worms with their excrements from time to time. For the treatment of the smaller pets, panacur is not recommended in a single administered dose. Usually, cats and dogs require 3 consecutive doses in a 72 hour period for it to take effect. The length of the application really depends upon the parasites being treated, and the reaction and effects of the doses on the particular animal. It is important to complete the prescribed medication course period even if the animal starts showing strong physical signs of recovery right away, unless intervened by your vet. Again, the best way to go about it, and to use the correct quantities, application should always be performed under the strict guidance of your vet. The most common veterinary formulations in the market for Fenbendazole are Panacur and Safe-Guard by Hoechst.
Until recently, panacur was available in the form of granules and suspensions only, usually for the treatment of cats and dogs. However, with the introduction of the Panacur Paste, there has been a new lease of life for parasite infested horses as well. An advantage Fenbendazole has over other horse wormers is that it is suitable for all ages and both sexes. Even the youngest of foals and pregnant mares can be treated using panacur. It works brilliantly against all the predominant parasitic enemies of horses, namely, pinworms, ascarids, and large & small strongyles. However, the most crucial use of panacur paste in horses comes into play in case an animal reaches late stages of infestation, such as encysted large strongyloides in the early and late third stage, and cyathostome larvae in the fourth stage.The quantities of panacur paste to be administered on horses depend on the type of parasite, the age, sex, weight, and the level of infestation in a particular patient. Usually panacur paste is quite palatable for horses as it comes in an apple and cinnamon flavour.
